Valentines walk for Tom Towler Charity

The Tom Towler EBV-HLH Charity has celebrated its very first fundraising event — a 10-mile sponsored walk along the historic Peddars Way, organised in Tom's memory.

Jonathan and Pip Barber of @lovenorfolk chose Tom's charity as their nominated cause for this year's walk, helping kick-start the charity's fundraising efforts as it continues to get up and running.

Behind the scenes, the charity has also been building an important connection with the research community. Contact has now been made with Claire Shannon-Lowe, the lead researcher into this devastating disease in Birmingham, and all funds raised will go directly to her department. Better diagnostic testing and, ultimately, a cure remain the goals — and this walk has brought that a step closer.

The Walk

Walkers gathered at the Barber family home, Magazine Wood, Sedgeford, from 8:45am, before setting off at 9am on the 10-mile route along the Peddars Way, finishing at The Dabbling Duck pub in Massingham.

Each walker contributed £20 cash, collected at the start, and were welcomed at the finish line with bacon butties, tea, and coffee — with the bacon generously donated by Sam Papworth Butchers. A huge thank you to Sam for the support.

Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, donated, or helped make the day possible — from the Barber family for hosting and choosing Tom's charity as their cause, to Sam Papworth Butchers for their generosity, and to every walker who turned out to remember Tom.
